A detailed score report card for every test taken.

A simple score result is often not enough to accurately reflect a student’s overall strengths and weaknesses. This is why Envoy provides a detailed score report card that students and educators can use to fully understand the results of their English language test.

Envoy’s English language proficiency test is marked by AI with expert linguists available to review results if any of the data is flagged as suspicious.

Students receive an overall score between 0 and 120, which is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Each result indicates whether the student is a basic, independent or proficient user of English rating them from pre-A1 to C2.

Scores are listed within four categories : listening, reading, speaking and writing. Within each category there is further analysis, which enables students to pinpoint exactly how they performed and where they may need to improve.

For example, within the speaking category there are separate results for fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. These results include a detailed description of performance aligned to the CEFR can-do statements. Providing students and educators more than just a number to base their understanding and any future learning on.

Each detailed score report also includes a sample of the student’s speaking response and the full response to both the email and writing tasks.

Use Envoy's score reports to tailor lessons and help students improve

With this high level of feedback and analysis, Envoy’s score reports can be used to serve three broad purposes of English language assessment: diagnostic to identify areas of improvement or inform curriculum, progress check to assess how students are learning and proficiency testing to determine overall skill levels.

Educators can easily access the score reports on Envoy’s online admin dashboard . Reports are available in web format with a unique hyperlink and in PDF format, which can be downloaded.

Test administrators can decide whether to share the results or not with the student. If they want the student to access the report, this can be done with an automated option so the score report is sent directly to the student. With the manual option, the administrator can decide when and how to share the results with the student.

Envoy results are not only efficient, but fast. Score cards are usually delivered within two hours of the student completing the test.

Accurate, reliable results with human oversight

If a test is flagged by Envoy’s AI algorithms for suspicious behaviour, score inconsistency or technical issues, it may be sent to a human rater for review. In these cases the results will be delivered within 24 hours.

This combination of AI technology with close human oversight gives educators assurance that its English language proficiency tests are accurate, reliable and valid .

Envoy employs expert human linguists to train the data fed into its AI models to ensure students are thoroughly tested. It includes open-ended questions that simulate how people write and speak in real-life situations.

Teachers can test students in one skill or up to four (listening, reading, speaking and writing ). A single skills test can be completed in as little as 20 minutes, while the test for all four skills can be done in 90 minutes.
