Far Eastern University (FEU), a leading university in the Philippines, has announced a new partnership with English language proficiency test, Envoy, to support its globally competitive graduates.
From September 2024, Envoy, the adaptive test from IDP Education , will assess and accelerate the English skills of FEU students across its seven institutes, including health sciences and nursing, arts, education, architecture and fine arts, tourism and hotel management, and law.
Backed by IDP’s insights from students and test takers worldwide, Envoy is a next-generation English test that combines the expertise of linguists with advanced AI technology. Envoy uses open-ended questions to assess English language and communication skills in real-life settings, with results available in just two hours.
Marko Antonio O. Da Silva, director of FEU’s Center for Learning Enrichment and Research for Students, said more than 86 percent of FEU students are looking to work overseas, so it is essential they graduate with a leading education and exceptional English skills to give them a competitive edge.
“Envoy will be used to test the English abilities of FEU students when they commence their studies and also upon graduation,” said Da Silva. “One of our challenges in gauging and improving our students’ language abilities is the lack of assessments that capture the nuances of their English language skills. Since Envoy adapts to the level of each individual test taker and can be taken across any or all of the four skills areas, we will see a more accurate and personalised assessment result for all students.
“In addition, we will use Envoy’s detailed test results to inform faculty of their students’ baseline skills enabling them to tailor their teaching across both our domestic and international cohorts.”
“As FEU approaches its centennial year, the university remains committed to producing globally competitive graduates who possess industry-responsive skills and exceptional English language abilities. It is our hope that through the new partnership with Envoy, FEU students will be able to stand out from the crowd and exhibit our core values of Fortitude and Excellence,” said Maria Teresa Trinidad P. Tinio, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of FEU.
Ella Soper, head of Business Development for Envoy, said Envoy and FEU share a commitment to helping students and test takers reach their full potential.
“We are delighted that FEU will be using Envoy to tailor teaching and accelerate the English proficiency skills of its graduates. As a flexible, cost-effective English test with detailed reporting, Envoy empowers teachers to adapt lessons to students’ needs as they pursue their global ambitions,” said Soper.
